Brantley Gilbert is one of the biggest names in modern country music and his career has been on an upward trend for the Georgia native since his breakthrough in 2009. Here are 5 facts you might not know about country music’s bad boy.
1. He proposed to his wife Amber Cochran in the church they met in.
Brantley is a true romantic at heart and shows it in his music but also in real life. He proposed to his now-wife Amber Cochran in the church where they first met while he was doing community service. She was the “girl who got away” at first but he got her back in the end. He even wrote her a song when he asked the big question.
2. Brantley doesn’t drink and has been sober since 2011.
Despite writing some of the best party anthems in country music, Brantley has been sober since 2011 and doesn’t touch booze at all. He’s said that he doesn’t need liquor in his life anymore and can still have fun and go to parties without it.
3. He was playing in bars at only 15 years old.
Brantley has always had his bad boy image and was playing in rough n’ tumble bars at the young age of 15. His parents had no clue Brantley was performing in bars and thought he was out spreading the gospel and singing worship music.
4. He wrote “My Kinda Party” for Jason Aldean.
Before his incredibly successful solo career, Brantley wrote songs for country superstar Jason Aldean. He wrote “My Kinda Party” and “Dirt Road Anthem” with Colt Ford for Aldean - even recording his own version of “Dirt Road Anthem” before it became a huge hit for Aldean.
5. He decided to take music seriously after a near death experience
Brantley had a life changing experience at 19 years old when he flipped his truck while driving. The near death experience caused him to rethink his life and to quit working towards a degree in marriage counseling to pursue music full time.
